Message from Livia Thompson, FTA

Livia2011I wanted to share some information with you that I hope will continue to spur you on to thinking about what is happening within your congregation and how you can help create opportunities for reframing congregational life.  In the Synagogue 3K report, there is a summary of a recent survey of Jewish congregational life from over 1,215 Reform and Conservative congregations and their challenges.

Last year, Ed Alpert, FTA was deservedly awarded the Myron Schoen Service to Judaism Award after being nominated by Rabbi Steven Stark Lowenstein of Temple Am Shalom.  We want to share with the members some excerpts from Rabbi Lowenstein’s nominating letter because they wonderfully capture the essence of Ed:

What's New?

Someone Old. Someone New– NATA mentoring program can keep you from feeling blue!

It can be lonely out there – especially for new NATA members who don’t have local colleagues.  The NATA Mentoring Program was recently established to pair new NATA members with experienced colleagues, and began with 48 pairs. Mentors are asked to:

- Be the resource person for the new member.

- Facilitate making connections with NATA and regional groups.

- Confirm that new members know about NATA-Net.
